CAPD

What is CAPD?

Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) is a form of dialysis treatment that involves manual exchange. No machine is required for this type of dialysis.

When your kidneys fail, CAPD is a way of replacing that function by using the membrane covering your internal organs known as the peritoneum.

The peritoneum can act as a filther. During peritoneal dialysis fluid is put into the space through a catheter (a type of vascular access that is apermanent soft, flexible plastic tube) attached to your abdomen. The fluid then sits there for several hours and is then drained out into an empty bag and thrown away.

Dialyze Anywhere

CAPD is a type of dialysis treatment that does not have to be done at a clinic. With CAPD you can dialyze in the comfort of your own home.
